Women’s Basketball Travels to Big 5 Rival St. Joseph’s on Monday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball plays their first road game of the 2019-20 season at Big 5 Rival St. Joseph's University Monday, Nov. 11 at the Michael J. Hagan Arena for a 7 p.m. tip. 

THE OWLS
> Temple opened the 2019-20 season with a pair of wins at home. The Owls topped Fairfield 77-59 on Nov. 5 before rolling past Duquesne 85-72 on Nov. 8.
> Mia Davis recorded a double-double in each game. The junior captain collected 18 points and 11 rebounds against Fairfield and led Temple with 26 points and 11 boards against Duquesne. 
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones paced the Owls with 21 points in her debut against Fairfield. Jones is the current assist leader for Temple after combining for 16 assists across the two games.
> In just two games, sophomore Marissa Mackins has racked up a total of 10 three-pointers, including a career-best on Nov. 5 against the Stags. 
> Freshman Asonah Alexander has been a great addition to the Temple squad as the Prospect Park, N.J. native averages 7.5 assists per game. Alexander collected her first career point with a foul shot against Duquesne before ending the night with six. 
> The Owls head into their third game shooting 46.1% from the floor and 42% from beyond the arc. 

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 85, Duquesne 72
> Temple shot 55% from the field in the second half, as the Owls high-powered offense finished at 48.5% for the game.
> Temple worked around 17 turnovers, holding a 41-28 advantage on the boards.
> Duquesne hung around in the first and second quarters as the Dukes took a slim lead midway through the second.
> Temple held on for a six point edge after two frames, before a huge third quarter saw the Owls go in front by 11.
> The Owls' game-changing run at the end of the third quarter and into the fourth featured five points each from Mackins and Davis as Temple went on top for good.
> Junior Mia Davis notched her second double-double in as many games, tallying team best totals of 26 points and 11 rebounds.
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins notched 18 points with three assists.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones was all over the court, finishing with 13 points, nine assists, and six rebounds.
> Sophomore Alexa Williamson struck for nine points and six boards, while graduate student Lena Niang had eight points.
> Freshman Asonah Alexander tallied six points and eight assists, while Shannen Atkinson pulled down five boards.

SCOUTING ST. JOSEPH'S
> The Hawks won their first game of the 2019-20 campaign, topping Columbia 71-57 in New York, N.Y.
> St. Joseph's had three players finish with double-digit points as Claire Melia paced the team with 23 points. The freshman from Ireland was 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and added four assists, three rebounds, two blocks and a steal for the Hawks. 
> SJU shot 51.9% from the field, holding the Lions to just 35.7%. 
> Gabby Smalls led the Hawks on the boards, ripping down a game-high nine rebounds. 

TEMPLE VS. ST. JOSEPH'S
> The Hawks lead 43-37 in the all-time series against Temple. During Cardoza's tenure, the Owls are 11-4 against SJU. 

LAST TIME THEY MET
> In the 80th meeting between the two programs, Temple edged St. Joseph's 58-52 on Nov. 8, 2018 at Michael J. Hagan Arena. 
> The Owls racked up 30 points in the paint, 15 of them coming off second chance points. 
> Katie Jekot led all players with 16 points, including four from beyond the arc. 
> Temple outshot the Hawks 37.9% to 32.2%. SJU held onto a slight advantage from three-point range, outshooting the Owls 25.8% to 25%.
