Women's Basketball Signs a Pair of Top Recruits

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team has announcing the signing of a pair of talented recruits. Jasha Clinton and Aniya Matthews will join the Owls for the 2020-21 season.

"We are truly excited for the future here at Temple," said head coach Tonya Cardoza. "With our 2020 recruiting class I believe we have added two highly skilled and versatile players that have the potential to make an immediate impact. Jasha and Aniya are extremely passionate about basketball and their great personalities are a perfect fit. They are both great athletes but they’re even better people and I can’t wait for them to join our family here in Philadelphia.”

Jasha Clinton | 5-8 | G | Virginia Beach, Va.

Clinton is a 5-8 point guard hailing from Virginia Beach, Va. Clinton boasts an 80-4 record with three-straight state championships heading into her senior season at Princess Anne High School. A player for Boo Williams 17U EYBL, Clinton averaged 15 points, 6.9 assists and four steals during her junior year at Princess Anne while being named All-Class 5 Region A Player of the Year, First Team All-State, First Team All-Beach District and First Team All-Tidewater. Clinton intends to major in Science and Technology at Temple.

"Jasha is an electrifying guard on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. She will add speed and quickness to our backcourt. She is a proven winner who has won several state championships in high school. We are very excited about the addition of Jasha to our family."

Aniya Matthews | 6-4 | F | York, Pa.

Matthews is a 6-4 forward from York, Pa. A Dallastown Area High School student, she plays for the Spooky Nook Lady Raiders AAU team, which she helped lead to the UA Rise National Championships. After averaging 9.9 points per game and guiding her team to a 24-4 finish her junior year, Matthews was named First Team All-Division and earned the Best Post Player Award. An honor roll student at Dallastown, Matthews plans on majoring in Physical Therapy when she arrives on North Broad Street.

"Aniya is an athletic post player who will add size to our front court. I am excited about her versatility and ability to run the floor in transition. She will definitely have an impact on the defensive end for us. I can't wait to get her here on Broad Street."
