Batze Named All-Big East Second Team
11.7.19 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK - Junior field hockey defender Dani Batze was named to the All-Big East Second-Team following an outstanding season on the pitch, the league office announced Thursday.Â
Batze led the the Owls' offense, recording a team-leading six goals and four game-winners. Of her 31 shots, 19 were on target for a 0.613 shot on goal percentage.Â
The Eden, Md., native dominated the defensive side of the ball, leading the team with five defensive saves. One of only two Owls to record a defensive save, Batze led the conference and ranked seventh in the nation. Her career total comes to 16 after her third season with Temple, ranking second in the nation for active career defensive saves.Â
This is the second conference honor for Batze this season, being named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll in October.Â
The Owls went 7-10 (2-5 Big East) this season under first year head coach Susan Ciufo, recording five more wins than last year's squad and snapping an 18-game losing streak in regular season league play. Batze scored the game-winner in the overtime win at Georgetown to snap the streak, making it the first Big East win for the team since 2016.
"We are so proud of our entire team for the transition they made this season, which is highlighted by Dani getting recognized for the year she had," Ciufo said. "Dani is an extremely vital part of our program both on the defense and the attack, and we are so fortunate to have her back for another season!"
