Women’s Basketball Hosts Duquesne Friday Night

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team welcomes Duquesne University to McGonigle Hall on Friday, Nov. 8 for a 7 p.m. start. 

THE OWLS
> Temple starts the season 1-0 following a win over Fairfield on Tuesday evening. 
> The Owls finished 11-19 a year ago, with a 7-9 record in the American.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones returns to the floor after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. The Philadelphia native joins a talented and more experienced squad for the 2019-20 season.
> Junior captain Mia Davis has earned preseason nods, including a unanimous selection to the American Athletic Conference Preseason First Team and being named to the 2020 Cheryl Miller Award Watch List for small forwards. Davis registered her 13th career double-double in Tuesday night's victory with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins returns following a solid rookie year. Mackins knocked down a career-best six three-pointers in the home opener to finish with 20 points. 
> Also returning for the Owls are strong post players Alexa Williamson and Shannen Atkinson. The two combined for 18 points and 12 rebounds against Fairfield.

> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones led Temple with 21 points and seven assists in her first game as an Owl.
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins drained a career-best six threes to finish with 20 points on the night.
> Junior Mia Davis notched her 13th career double-double, finishing with 18 points and 11 boards.
> Senior Shannen Atkinson tallied 11 points and six boards, while sophomore Alexa Williamson chipped in with seven points, six boards, and a pair of blocked shots.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE
> Dan Burt is in his seventh year at the helm of the Duquesne women's basketball program and holds an overall record of 133-68.
> The Dukes dropped a close contest in their first game of the season to Kent State at home. Duquesne outscored their opponent in the first quarter before ultimately falling 77-75.
> Duquesne shot 42.9% from the floor while registering a 52.6% three-point shooting percentage.
> Amanda Kalin and Laia Sole both led the Dukes with 14 points apiece.
> Amaya Hamilton led all players in the rebounding column with 10.
> Duquesne scored the majority of their points down low, racking up 40 points in the paint. 
> The Dukes totaled 12 offensive rebounds, converting them into 15 second-chance points.

TEMPLE VS. DUQUESNE
> Temple is 32-13 all-time against Duquesne. In their last meeting, the Owls fell to the Dukes on the road 54-53 on Jan. 2, 2019. 

LAST TIME THEY MET
> In their 45th meeting, the Dukes edged Temple 54-53 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
> The Owls outshot Duquesne, 34.5% to 31.0%.
> Alliya Butts led all players with 15 points, adding three steals and three assists.
> Marissa Mackins finished second in the scoring column with 14 on the night, including four shots from beyond the arc. 
> Libby Bazelak registered a double-double for the Dukes with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
