Davis Leads Women’s Basketball Past Towson

TOWSON, Md. - Mia Davis recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and a season-high 15 rebounds as the Temple women's basketball team defeated Towson 74-59 Wednesday at SECU Arena. The Owls improve to 5-4 on the season while the Tigers fall to 3-5.
Keys to the Game
> The Owls outshot Towson in every quarter except the second when both teams totaled 17 points.
> Temple outrebounded the Tigers 43-35 to hold the edge on the boards. However, the Owls allowed Towson to pull down 17 offensive rebounds, the most out of any opponent this season.
> The Tigers shot just 13.3% from three-point range (2-for-14). Temple returned to over 30% for the first time in three games as they shot 5-for-16 from beyond the arc.
Individual Highlights
> Davis collected 15 of her points at the foul line, shooting a career-high 18 foul shots. The junior finished with an 83.3% from the line.
> Ashley Jones added 21 points for the Owls along with six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
> Freshman Asonah Alexander led Temple with five assists and two steals while adding eight rebounds.
> Also recording eight boards was Lena Niang, who led the Owls with two three-pointers.
> Kionna Jeter paced the Tigers with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds while Qierra Murray led all players with nine assists.
First Quarter
> The game got off to a slow start with the first three minutes consisting only of foul shots for both teams. Davis gave the Owls the lead with two good foul shots and Tess Borgosz put the Tigers on the board after making one-of-two from the line.
> Temple collected six offensive rebounds in the first frame and converted them into seven second-chance points. Towson registered five offensive boards but was only able to put up one second-chance bucket.
> Davis and Jones were the two main scorers for the first 10 minutes of the game until Alexa Williamson added a layup for the Owls towards the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter
> The second quarter started off much quicker than the first, as Towson came out and scored back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 13.
> Emani Mayo and Davis both answered with three-pointers to put Temple back in the lead.
> The teams traded baskets for the majority of the quarter, with each team scoring 17 points.
Third Quarter
> The Owls shot their best in the third quarter, going 50% from the field and 100% from the foul line.
> Jeter opened the second half with a quick jumper to bring the Tigers within two points.
> Alexander and Davis each followed with a layup to spark an 8-3 run for Temple.
> At the three-minute mark, Davis picked up her 22nd career double-double with an offensive rebound and putback.
Fourth Quarter
> Despite shooting 88.2% (15-for-17) from the foul line, the Owls shot just 18.7% (3-for-16) from the floor in the final 10 minutes.
> Towson didn't shoot much better in the fourth, however they did outshoot Temple with their 27.7% field goal percentage.
> The Tigers went on a 6-0 run over the span of three and a half minutes before two foul shots from Davis broke the streak.
> Temple went 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the final two minutes to secure their fifth victory of the season.
