Pierre Cayet Named to All-Region Team
12.9.19 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – After a standout season anchoring the Temple men's soccer defensive unit, junior captain Pierre Cayet has been named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-East Region Third Team, as announced on Monday afternoon. The Brettes-les-pins, France native is the sixth student-athlete in program history to receive the honor and the first since 2017.
Cayet played a pivotal role in Temple's brick-wall defensive unit all season while contributing greatly on set pieces to flame the Owls' offensive production. On the defensive end, the center back was a well-grounded playmaker that made numerous defensive stops to halt some of the nation's most skilled scoring threats. He captained the Temple defense that held opponents to just 11.6 shots per game and allowed only 22 goals in 18 games.
Offensively, he finished the season tied for the most goals on the team with three, and his six-point contribution tied for third best for the Owls. He netted the initial goal in Temple's 2-1 road win over Louisville and scored the game winner just four days later in the a 2-1 win against UConn, both of which were headers off of set pieces. On Senior Night, he scored the equalizer that sent the Owls into overtime against No. 11 SMU and led Temple to a 5-1-1 record during the month of October. Cayet was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28 and the All-Region honors are the first of his career.
The junior captain was named to the All-AAC Second Team and was the first Temple men's soccer player in program history to earn all-tournament honors at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Men's Soccer tournament. He helped the Owls earn their first-ever mark in the win column in AAC tournament play, defeating Memphis on the road in a 2-1 double-overtime thriller.
