Cross Country Garners USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

2.14.19 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA – After boasting an outstanding semester on the course and in the classroom, members of the Temple University men's and women's cross country teams have been honored by the USTFCCCA as some of the top student-athletes in the country. Kristian Jensen, Grace Moore and Kira Von Ehren have all earned individual NCAA Division I All-Academic honors, while both squads as a whole earned All-Academic team honors for their success.

"Our men and women have done a fantastic job in the classroom once again and I'm very proud of the hard work they're putting in," said head coach James Snyder. "Our academic advisor, Nick Plack, deserves the most praise as he's directly responsible for student-athlete success in this area.  He works tirelessly to ensure that each of our runners are able to reach their full potential academically."

In order to qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have finished in the top 10 percent at an NCAA Division I Cross Country Regional meet.

Jensen earned the accolade after posting an outstanding semester GPA of 3.93 as a sophomore Neuroscience major. The Esbjerg, Denmark native helped the Owls to their highest-ever finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional back in November, finishing 13th overall and earning All-Region honors. The sophomore also has All-Conference nods on his resume and was the 2018 IC4A individual champion.

Moore, an Exercise Science major, was named All-Academic after finishing the semester strong with a 3.76 GPA. In 2018, she became the first Temple women's cross country runner in program history to bring home the individual title at the ECAC Championships, helping the team to its first-ever team title. She finished 21st at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional to garner All-Region nods and help the squad to a program-high fourth place finish.

Von Ehren posted an impressive 3.84 GPA during her first semester at Temple, as she works towards receiving her Master of Science in Sport Business. The Krefeld, Germany native finished 22nd at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, helping the squad to a record-breaking finish and earning All-Region honors.

As a whole, the women's cross country team finished the semester with a stellar 3.73 GPA, just above their cumulative GPA of 3.71. The men's squad posted a semester GPA of 3.61, also right above their cumulative mark of 3.58. Both teams proudly lead the Temple University athletic department with the highest cumulative GPA's.
