Six Former Owls to be inducted into Philadelphia Black Basketball Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA – Six former Temple University men's basketball greats, Nate Blackwell, Mardy Collins, Lynn Greer, Mik Kilgore, Aaron McKie and Mark Tyndale, will be among the 25-member Class of 2019 inducted into the Philadelphia Black Basketball Hall of Fame Sunday afternoon 17 at the HERO Community Center. Temple head coach Fran Dunphy will also be honored as a friend of the Philadelphia BBHOF at the ceremony which starts at 2 pm.

The six Owls being honored all rank among Temple's top 20 all-time scorers and combined for 10,576 points during their careers on North Broad Street.  Each played professionally following their Temple careers with four seeing action in the NBA.  McKie, who will take over as the Temple men's basketball coach following the 2018-19 season, had the most success in the professional ranks, playing 13 seasons in the NBA, including eight with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The six Owls also combined to win 421 games and take Temple to 14 NCAA Tournaments, including five trips to the Elite 8, and six NIT appearances. 

The 2019 Class is third class inducted into the Philadelphia Black Basketball Hall of Fame.   Former Temple greats Guy Rodgers and Hal Lear, who are regarded by many as the best backcourt in Philadelphia college basketball history, and former Owl coach John Chaney, were inducted in the Inaugural Class of 2016.
