Opening Tip

The Temple University men's basketball team hosts Princeton on Monday night at 7 p.m. inside the Liacouras Center, as the Owls look to close their non-conference slate and 2025 home schedule on a four-game winning streak.

Temple and Princeton meet for the second time in 27 days, with the Owls earning a hard-fought 79-75 victory on Nov. 25 at the ESPN Events Invitational in Kissimmee, Fla.

In that contest, Derrian Ford (21 points), Aiden Tobiason (16 points) and Jordan Mason (11 points) all reached double figures, while Gavin Griffiths narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Temple totaled season highs with 28 free throws made on 41 attempts in the win.

The Owls have won three consecutive games and aim to close non-conference play with four straight victories before opening American Conference action at Charlotte on Dec. 30. Over the past three games, Ford has averaged 21.7 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 56.3 percent from three-point range (9-for-16). Tobiason has added 18.3 points per game while shooting 54.3 percent overall.

This marks the first time Temple has faced a non-conference opponent twice in the same regular season since playing No. 1 Duke twice during the 2000–01 campaign — first at the Preseason NIT at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 24, 2000, and again in a regular-season matchup on Dec. 2 at the venue now known as Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Last Time Out

Temple earned its first road win of the season Thursday night at Davidson, holding off the Wildcats, 68-63. The Owls built a 16-point second-half lead that Davidson trimmed to as low as two points on three occasions, but Temple never relinquished the advantage.

Ford led all scorers with 23 points, marking his sixth 20-point performance of the season. Tobiason added 19 points, including Temple's final three field goals to seal the win. Cam Wallace contributed nine points off the bench, while Mason finished with 14.

The quartet of Ford, Tobiason, Mason and Wallace combined for 65 of Temple's 68 points (95.6%). The Owls played without starter Gavin Griffiths (lower body) and key contributors Masiah Gilyard (lower body) and AJ Smith (shoulder) due to injuries.

Scouting Princeton

Princeton enters Monday's contest on a seven-game losing streak, though each of its previous six losses has come by five points or fewer. During that stretch, the Tigers fell to Temple (79-75), Vermont (79-74), Saint Joseph's (60-58), Monmouth (63-58), Loyola Chicago (73-68) and Merrimack (59-56) by a combined 24 points.

Temple will look to limit Jackson Hicke (22 points) and Jack Stanton (18 points), who combined for 40 points in the first meeting. Stanton connected on five three-pointers in Kissimmee and currently ranks first in the Ivy League in made threes while ranking third in three-point field goal percentage.

The Tigers have been without leading scorer Dalen Davis (16.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.2 apg) in each of their last seven games, including the matchup against Temple.

Hicke averages 13.9 points per game, with Stanton (10.9) and CJ Happy (9.3) providing additional scoring. Stanton also leads the Ivy League in three-point attempts and ranks fourth in both three-point percentage (38.2) and made threes per game (2.62).

Princeton relies heavily on half-court execution, ranking last nationally in fast-break points while sitting 67th in Division I in three-point attempts per game.

Temple holds an 11-8 edge in the all-time series and has won three straight meetings dating back to 2004. The programs first met during the 1926–27 season. Temple is 4-2 all-time against Princeton in Philadelphia, including three wins at the Palestra and a victory at the Liacouras Center on Dec. 20, 2004.
