PHILADELPHIA - Four opponents went down at the hands of seventh-ranked Temple fencing as the Owls took down #9 Penn, #10 Princeton, St. John's and Johns Hopkins at their own Temple Invitational to finish 25-8 for the dual meet season.

Meet Summary
> The Owls' only loss was in their first match of the day when they fell 16-11 to the fourth-ranked team in the nation, Penn State.
> Temple's sabre squad defeated the Nittany Lions 5-4 and was a perfect 5-0 for the day.
> An 8-1 win by epee led the Owls to a 20-7 win over Johns Hopkins, while sabre's 6-3 victory helped Temple edge St. John's 14-13.
> The foil squad posted an 8-1 mark in the Owls' 17-10 win over #9 Penn, with sabre winning 5-4.
> Princeton fenced shorthanded in the final match, but the Owls recorded a 16-11 win over the Tigers.

Individual Highlights
> Temple's five seniors - Fiona Fong, Ally Micek, Auset Muhammad, Blessing Olaode and Jessica Rockford - were all honored in a special ceremony after the lunch break.
> Leading Temple for the day was junior Kerry Plunkett of the sabre squad with a record of 9-1. She went 1-0 vs. #9 Penn, 1-0 vs. #10 Princeton and 2-1 vs. #4 Penn State.
> Freshman Aryana Abtin was strong for the foil squad with a record of 9-2 including a 3-0 mark vs. #9 Penn and a 2-1 record against #4 Penn State. Sophomore Megan Ross was 4-1 for foil with a 3-0 mark vs. Johns Hopkins.
> Micek was 8-6 to lead the epee squad, going 2-1 against #9 Penn and getting a win vs. #10 Princeton.

Quotable - Head Coach Dr. Nikki Franke
> "We always want to beat Penn State and I think maybe we came out trying TOO hard. We got off to a slow start, but once they relaxed and got into their game, we did much better. And Penn State is a very strong team."
> "They just had to refocus, regroup and let that (first match) go. They had to focus on the next match and that's what they did."
> "It was a great send-off for our seniors. It was their last dual meet and they all had their parents here so that was very nice. That made it even more special."

Up Next
> The Owls will go for their 23rd straight team title at the NIWFA Championships, set for Saturday, March 2 at Drew University.
