Mia Davis Named American Player of the Week; Butts on Honor Roll

PHILADELPHIA -- After a pair of outstanding performances in a 2-0 week for the Temple women's basketball team, sophomore Mia Davis was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while teammate, graduate Alliya Butts, earned an Honor Roll nod.
Davis and Butts led Temple to a pair of road wins in conference play, as the Owls topped Tulsa on Tuesday and Wichita State on Saturday.
Davis averaged 27.5 points and 11.0 rebounds to earn Temple's first American Player of the Week honors of the season. On Tuesday at Tulsa, the sophomore scored 25 points and added a team-high nine rebounds in a 75-61 win. Wrapping up the week on Saturday at Wichita State, Davis racked up a career-best 30 points, completing her seventh double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. With Temple holding a slim lead in a two-possession game, Davis had a massive fourth quarter with 15 points and seven rebounds herself, sparking the Owls to an impressive 20-1 run in the frame. Butts averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds to earn an American Weekly Honor Roll selection. On Tuesday at Tulsa, the graduate set a new career high with 34 points on 54.5% shooting, while adding five assists and five rebounds. At Wichita State, Butts had 14 points, also dishing out five assists and adding five boards, tying a career best. For the week, the guard shot 42.9% (18-42) from the field.Â
Temple is back in action on Tuesday at noon, hosting Houston at the Liacouras Center.
