Men's Basketball Downed by Tulsa, 76-58

2.9.19 | Men's Basketball

TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa remains the only school in the American Athletic Conference at which Temple men's basketball has not won a game, as the Owls (17-7, 7-4) went cold for long stretches of the second half in a 76-58 loss to the Golden Hurricane (14-10, 4-7).

Game Summary
> The Owls' 21.7 percent shooting (5-of-23) in the second half was their worst performance in a half all season.
> An 8-0 run early in the second period put Temple within four, 46-42 at 16:32, but the Owls made only a single field goal the rest of the way (14-for-21 at the line).
> Tulsa shot 55 percent overall to Temple's 31 percent and had five players reach double figures in scoring.

Individual Highlights
> Shizz Alston, Jr. scored 11 of the Owls' first 16 points and finished with 13 in the contest along with a game-high six assists.
> Also reaching double digits in scoring for Temple were Nate Pierre-Louis with 12 points and Quinton Rose with 10.

First Half
> Both teams got off to a slow start, with Temple taking nearly four minutes to score but also holding Tulsa to a single bucket in that stretch.
> Alston missed his first two attempts from the field before hitting three straight and eventually scoring 11 of the Owls' first 16 points.
> The second tie of the game came at the midway point of the first half, 16-16, and the Owls were within one at 22-21 before Tulsa pulled well ahead.
> The Golden Hurricane used a 9-0 run to take their first double-digit lead at 31-21 with 4:54 left in the half. They later led by as many as 12, and still by 11 points at the two-minute mark.
> Back-to-back Temple buckets got the Owls within six, but they gave up a late jumper to Tulsa and trailed 39-31 at the break.
> Tulsa made seven of its final eight attempts from the field and shot 62 percent in the half to the Owls' 38 percent.

Second Half
> The Owls trailed by double digits early before an 8-0 run got them within four at 16:32, but a De'Vondre Perry three-pointer at the nine-minute mark was their only field goal the rest of the way.
> Pierre-Louis hit a free throw at 8:16 to pull Temple within 11, but a 12-0 run for Tulsa put the game out of reach.
