Women’s Tennis Hosts Villanova Friday, at Penn Saturday

PHILADELPHIA—Temple women's tennis (8-3, 0-1 AAC) is set to compete against two city rivals this weekend. On Friday, March 15, the Owls will host Villanova (3-5, 0-2 Big East) at the Legacy Tennis Center at 8 a.m. Temple will head across town to Penn (9-3, 0-0 Ivy) on Saturday, March 16 to take on the Quakers at 12 p.m.
The Owls
> The team is led by head coach Steve Mauro, who is in his 11th year at the helm of the women's program.
> Last time out, Temple competed against Georgetown on Tuesday, March 12, downing the Hoyas, 6-1.The Owls had the advantage from the start, sweeping all three doubles contests to earn the point. With the victory at first doubles, the team of Ruoyu Chen and Chunan Xiang improved to 6-3 on the season. Alice Patch and Oyku Boz moved to an impressive 7-2 this season with their win at second doubles.
> Temple dominated singles as well, winning all but one match. The Owls notched two victories in straight sets from Xiang in the No. 3 spot and Oleksandra Dorsoshenko in the No. 4 spot. Chen battled through three sets, edging her Hoya opponent 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.
Scouting Villanova
> Villanova is led by Steve Reiniger, who is in his 21st year as head coach of the Wildcats.
> Villanova is 3-5 on the season. They last competed on Thursday, March 7 at Concordia University. The Wildcats defeated the Eagles in a tightly-contested match, 4-3.
Scouting Penn
> Penn is led by head coach Sanela Kunovac, who is in her 10th season at the helm of the program.
> The Quakers are 9-3, with their losses coming against Columbia, No. 19 Old Dominion and No. 27 UCF. Last time out, Penn fell to No. 27 UCF, 5-2. Penn's No. 111 Iuliia Bryzgalova defeated No. 27 Valeria Zeleva in straight sets.
