Gottlieb Named AAC Female Track Athlete of the Week

3.19.19 | Women's Track and Field

PHILADELPHIA – After a standout performance at the Charlotte 49er Classic this past weekend, sophomore Helene Gottlieb has been named the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. The honors are the first of Gottlieb's career and the first for the Owls this season. She was also named the Under Armour/OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week for her success on the track last weekend.

Gottlieb, who earned a spot on the podium in both the 800m and the mile three weeks ago at the AAC Indoor Championships, carried this momentum into Temple's outdoor season-opener in Charlotte, N.C. Competing in the 800m on Saturday afternoon, the sophomore dominated the 89-person field and clocked a blazing time of 2:08.51 to earn first place overall.

Just over a second off of her own school record in the event, Gottlieb's time currently ranks first in the American Athletic Conference and pins her as the frontrunner in the East Region. Her time also puts her top-five in all of Division I, as she currently sits fourth overall and just two seconds behind the nation's fastest.

Gottlieb also ran a speedy anchor leg in the 4x400, helping the relay team consisting of Marissa White, Madison Beecher and Mallorie Smith to a time of 3:49.40 to place fifth overall in a challenging field.

The Owls will be back in action this Saturday, March 23 when they travel across town to compete at the Penn Challenge.
