Women's Rowing Opens 2019 Season at Murphy Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- Working around a venue change and a wind-shortened schedule, the Temple women's rowing team took home three golds at the 37th Annual Murphy Cup on Saturday at Cooper River.
Top of the Podium
> Temple won the third varsity eight, as well as the varsity four and second varsity four events.
> The varsity eight won their finals-only race to earn the top spot, while the fours both earned gold based on recording the fastest times in the morning round of heats.
Varsity Eight
> Temple's top crew opened the day with the fastest time in the morning heat, recording a 6:48.62 to out pace Georgetown, Lehigh, Washington College, and Loyola.
> In the finals, the Owls couldn't repeat the same success, taking fourth in 6:53.35. Penn won the event, followed by UNC, and Drexel.
Second Varsity Eight
> The Owls topped the heat round in the morning, securing a spot in the finals with a time of 7:00.16, faster to the finish than George Washington, La Salle and Duquesne.
> In the finals, Temple was just three seconds off a medal finish, taking fourth in 6:57.01 behind Penn, Drexel, and UNC.
Third Varsity Eight
> The Owls topped a field of three in the finals, recording a time of 7:15.81.
> Temple was six seconds ahead of UNC and nearly 20 ahead of third-place George Washington.
Fours
> Temple's varsity four won its heat in a time of 7:58.34, which stood as the fastest time out of 11 boats, earning the crew gold.
> The Owls' second varsity four also grabbed gold, as their time of 8:13.99 was nearly 15 seconds faster than second-place Penn.
