CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- Dealing with a venue change and a wind-shortened event, the Temple men's crew team officially opened the 2019 spring season at their own Murphy Cup Regatta on Saturday. The Owls came away with three medals -- one gold and a pair of silvers.
Varsity Eight
> The Owls finished fifth overall after advancing to the grand finals.
> Temple opened the day with a 6:19.03 in the opening heat, behind only Colgate.
> In the grand final, the Cherry and White clocked in at 6:23.64 to top Rutgers, but place behind Drexel, Marist, Notre Dame, and Colgate.
JV Eight
> Temple had a strong showing in the JV eight event, with the lightweight eight taking gold, and the second varsity boat earning silver.
> Opening the day in the heats, the lightweights won their heat in 6:10.98, while the heavies also won, recording a 6:24.76.
> In the grand finals, the lightweight boat notched a winning time of 6:03.15, with the heavyweights right behind in 6:06.92. Both crews finished ahead of Marist, Notre Dame, La Salle, and Rutgers.
Third Varsity Eight
> Temple had two entries in the third varsity eight boat, the traditional 3V and the second lightweight eight, with the lightweights earning silver at the end of the day.
> Both Owl crews took second in their opening heats -- the heavies in 6:43.12 and the lightweights in 6:18.73.
> In the grand final, Temple's lightweight finished second in 6:20.70, behind only Drexel's third varsity boat. Temple's third varsity took sixth in a time of 6:43.92.

> Temple's lightweights will race Penn, MIT, and Delaware next weekend on the Schuylkill River.
> The Owls' heavyweights are next in action on April 6 against Hobart and Georgetown on the Schuylkill.
