Mackins Earns Second Freshman of the Week Honor

PHILADELPHIA -- For the second time this season, Temple women's basketball player, Marissa Mackins, has earned American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors. She grabbed her first conference nod on February 11.

Mackins shined in Temple's final three games of the regular season, helping the team rise to tie for fifth place in the final standings. In a 2-1 week for the Owls, she averaged 19.0 points, 3.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game. Mackins shot 47.6% from the field, 43.3% from three, and 100% from the line for the final week of regular season games. 

Against Tulsa, the guard tied a then career high with 19 points, adding a pair of assists. In a win over Wichita State, Mackins scored 15 points, while dishing out a career-best seven assist and adding four rebounds and a career-high four steals. Wrapping up the week, she set a new career high with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, adding three steals in a road win.

Temple begins play in the American Athletic Conference on Friday, at 8:00 p.m. against Memphis.
