Lacrosse Set for AAC Road Game at Cincinnati on Saturday

4.11.19 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - The second-straight American Athletic Conference road game takes Temple lacrosse to Cincinnati (8-5, 2-0) where the Owls (4-8, 1-1) will look for their second straight win. Only four regular season games remain for Temple, with three of those being AAC contests.

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are 4-8 overall and coming off their first-ever American Athletic Conference victory, winning 17-13 at UConn on April 6. Temple's 17 goals were a season high.
> Junior Maddie Gebert was named the AAC Attacker of the Week after scoring a season-high five goals and adding an assist in the UConn win. Junior goalkeeper Maryn Lowell was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
> Gebert was matched in goals last weekend by fellow junior Olivia Thompson who also scored five, one shy of her season high of six goals that she scored in the Owls' win at Rutgers early in the year.
> Temple had lost four straight prior to the UConn win, including a road loss at #7 James Madison and a home loss to #17 Florida.
> After five years as an associate member of the Big East Conference, Temple has begun its first season in the American Athletic Conference which is sponsoring women's lacrosse for the first time ever. Four of six teams will advance to the AAC Tournament on May 2 & 4 at Cincinnati.
> Gebert leads Temple with 24 goals, followed by Thompson with 21 goals. Sophomore Bridget Whitaker and junior Meghan Hoffman have scored 13 goals each, with Whitaker adding a team-best 11 assists.
> Defender Kara Nakrasius has collected a team-best 51 draw controls and also has 13 caused turnovers. She is moving up the all-time record lists and currently ranks fifth all-time with 122 draw controls.
> Sophomore Courtney Taylor leads the Owls with 19 caused turnovers and has 31 ground balls, second only to Lowell's 32 ground balls.

Scouting Cincinnati
> The Bearcats have won five straight games and are perfect in AAC play so far with wins vs. UConn and at ECU. Their eight wins already tie the program record for wins in a season.
> UC has allowed nine or fewer goals to its past four opponents, the longest streak in program history.
> Junior Monica Borzillo ranks second in the AAC in goals (43) and first in assists (32) for 75 total points to set a new program record at Cincinnati.
> Borzillo's 5.77 points per game rank fifth among all players in NCAA Division I.
> As a team, the Bearcats lead the nation with 29.62 ground balls per game.
> Cincinnati's 14.46 goals per game rank 16th among all teams in NCAA Division I.

Series History vs. Cincinnati
> Temple holds a 5-0 lead against Cincinnati, having faced the Bearcats in each of the last five seasons as a BIG EAST opponent.
> Last year's win was the closest in the series, with the Owls pulling out a 9-8 double-overtime home win on a golden goal by Maddie Gebert.
> In 2017 the Owls won 11-9 on the road, and they earned a 10-4 victory at home in 2016.
