Women’s Soccer Names Basileo, Dolan, Keitel and Tobin as Team Captains
4.15.19 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA—Head Coach Seamus O'Connor announced that Morgan Basileo, Emily Keitel and Molly Tobin and Julia Dolan have been named captains of the 2019 Temple women's soccer team.
"We are very lucky to have a team filled with leaders, so for the captains it was about finding from that deep pool those who could help us improve the quality of the communication between the coaching staff and the players," said O'Connor. "The coaching staff feels that it is vital that the players have their opinions heard and we selected four captains who we feel our players can talk to if they have an issue they need addressed. These four captains are also leaders who the coaching staff feel very comfortable with in terms of their maturity and genuinely caring for the team first, ahead of their own personal goals."
All four have made valuable contributions to the team during their careers in the Cherry and White. Basileo is a rising senior and goalkeeper for the Owls. She has tallied 167 saves in her career and earned AAC weekly honors four times. Dolan will be a junior next season and is a key presence in the midfield. She has scored one goal, been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll and to the Temple Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Keitel will be a senior next year and has been a mainstay on Temple's back line. She has recorded one goal and five assists in her career and has been named to the Temple Athletic Director's Honor Roll twice. Tobin is a rising senior, three-year member of the squad and acts as the team's brand captain. She has netted one goal as a midfielder for the Owls.
"These captains are strong-minded young women who will stand up for what they believe in and are willing to do whatever is necessary as leaders to put our team and our players in a position to be successful," said O'Connor. "The coaching staff has complete confidence in them that they will manage the team so it is following our team's guidelines in terms of behavior and expectations both in terms of athletics and academics."
Temple has one more match on its spring slate, as the Owls will head across town to Penn on Friday, April 19 to take on Quakers at 7 p.m.
