Philadelphia Big 5 Banquet was a Memorable Night for Temple Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's and women's basketball pulled in major awards at the Philadelphia Big 5 Banquet Monday night at the Palestra, but the it was the Owls' former coach Fran Dunphy who stole the show.
Fran Dunphy, who coached Temple to a 23-10 record and its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance in his 13-year tenure in 2018-19, was inducted into the Big 5 Hall of Fame as well as being named the Coach of the Year. Dunphy regaled the crowd with not one, but two speeches at the event.
Women's basketball standout Kamesha Hairston was also inducted into the Big 5 Hall of Fame. An Atlantic 10 Conference and Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year in 2006-07, she was a 2007 First Round WNBA draft pick.
Men's award major award recipients were sophomores Nate Pierre-Louis and De'Vondre Perry who received the Big 5's Most Improved Player and Scholar Athlete Award respectively.
The All-Big 5 Team was also announced with senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. being named to the first team while junior Quinton Rose and Pierre-Louis were selected to the second team. Alston also was the league's top scorer and free throw percentage leader.
The Temple women's basketball team was well represented on the list of Philadelphia Big 5 awards as Mia Davis and Alliya Butts both earned first team All-Big 5 honors, while Marissa Mackins was named Rookie of the Year, and Emani Mayo was picked as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
