Opening Tip
- Following four neutral-site games and one true road contest, the Temple University men's basketball team returns to North Broad Street for the first time in nearly three weeks Tuesday, hosting Georgian Court at the Liacouras Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., with the game airing on ESPN+.
- Temple opened the season with four consecutive home games before departing for three contests in Kissimmee, Fla., at the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational. The Owls then made quick trips last week to Villanova and Xfinity Mobile Arena in South Philadelphia for the Toyota Big 5 Classic against Saint Joseph's.
- The Owls look to snap a three-game skid after falling to Rhode Island, Villanova and Saint Joseph's. Temple closes the nonconference slate with home games against Georgian Court (Dec. 9) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (Dec. 14), before a road contest at Davidson on Dec. 18. The Owls welcome Princeton on Dec. 22 in the nonconference finale. Temple defeated the Tigers, 79-75, at the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational on Nov. 25. The Cherry and White open American Athletic Conference play Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Charlotte.
- Ford's 27-point performance surpassed his previous career high of 23 points, set as a sophomore at Arkansas State during the 2023-24 season. He currently ranks fourth in the American Athletic Conference in scoring (17.4 ppg), eighth in field-goal percentage (.433) and free throw percentage (.846), and second in minutes per game (35.1).
- Jordan Mason ranks among the league leaders in assists per game (fourth, 3.9 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (second, 3.2).
- Gavin Griffiths' 2.2 3-pointers per game are tied for ninth in the conference, while his 2.0 blocks per contest rank second. He also ranks 15th in the league with 1.3 steals per game.
Last Time Out
After a tough first half in which Temple shot 30 percent from the floor and trailed by 10 points, the Owls settled in at Xfinity Mobile Arena in the second half. Led by Derrian Ford's 20 of his 27 points after the break, Temple built a five-point lead with less than 90 seconds remaining. Saint Joseph's Deuce Jones II scored 10 points over the final two minutes, including the game-winning buzzer-beater as time expired, to lift the Hawks to a 70-69 win.
Griffiths supplied 15 points, knocking down 5-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc. He stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high five blocks and added three steals, three assists and four rebounds.
