Fencing's Hee and Plunkett Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team

PHILADELPHIA - Temple fencing juniors Malia Hee and Kerry Plunkett are two of 12Â student-athletes selected to the 2018-19 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team. Temple had a third representative on the team in Jaylene Everett from gymnastics. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Hee, an advertising major with a 3.95 GPA, is a repeat honoree after also being selected to the team in her sophomore season. She went 48-18 in dual meets this season to rank second on the team, and won gold in sabre at the 2018-19 Penn State Garret Open. Hee represented the Owls at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, placing 17th. As a sophomore, she earned the NCAA's ELITE 90 Award at the NCAA Fencing Championships. Hee has been named to Temple's President's Honor roll each year for having a GPA of 3.5 or above, and earned the team's Owl Club Academic Award in 2018.
Plunkett, a kinesiology major with a 3.6 GPA, is a 2019 NCAA All-America Honorable Mention honoree for finishing ninth in sabre at the NCAA Championships. She placed fourth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional and earned her third trip to the NCAA Championships in as many years. Plunkett went 53-14 in dual meets this season to lead the Owls, and finished 20-2 at the 2019 Northwestern Duals. She went 9-1 at the Owls' own Temple Invitational to close out the dual meet season. Plunkett was named to Temple's President's Honor roll last year for having a GPA of 3.5 or above.
Reeham Sedky Salah, a senior women's squash player from the University of Pennsylvania, was named the 2018-19 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's At-Large Performer of the Year. Salah is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team by Chestnut Hill's Stephanie Brogna, Haverford's Katie Bradley, Anna Neuheardt and Kaitlin Reese; Kinley Lingenfelter from Jefferson, Neumann's Jackie Schneider, Penn's Caroline Moore; Everett, Hee and Plunkett from Temple; and West Chester's Jessica Meakim.
