Women’s Tennis to Face Memphis Wednesday in First Round of AAC Tournament

PHILADELPHIA—Temple women's tennis (13-6, 0-3 AAC) earned the ninth seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament and is set to compete against eighth-seeded Memphis in the first round. The Owls will face the Tigers at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17. The tournament will be played in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus and streamed live on the American Digital Network.
Championship Notes
> The tournament begins Wednesday, April 17 and continues through April 20. Each day will feature a different round of the tournament: Wednesday- First Round, Thursday- Quarterfinals, Friday- Semifinals and Saturday- Finals.
> Seeds for the championships are determined by the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
> Each match in the championship will consists of three doubles matches, each consisting of one set to six. Doubles will be followed by six singles matches, which will be played in a best-of-three sets format.
The Owls
> The team is led by head coach Steve Mauro, who is in his 11th year at the helm of the women's program.
> The Owls return to the AAC Tournament as a No. 9 seed, amassing a 13-6 record in regular season play.
> Last time out, Temple traveled to Rollins to face the Tars on Saturday, April 13. The Owls came out on top, 4-3. The pair of Alice Patch and Oyku Boz took the decision at second doubles. Ruoyu Chen, Stefaniya Surikova, Cecilia Castelli and Oleksandra Doroshenko each notches victories in singles.
> Patch and Boz have been impressive as a tandem this season. They own an 11-4 record this season, playing on courts one, two and three. In singles, Chen holds an 11-5 record at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Doroshenko is 11-6 between courts one, three, four and five and Yining Tian is 10-4 in the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots.

> Memphis is led by Hayden Perez, who is in his fifth year as head coach of the Tigers.
> The Tigers are seeded eighth in the tournament, as they went 12-9 in the regular season and 3-1 in the conference.
> The team last competed on Saturday, April 13 at Middle Tennessee. Memphis defeated the Blue Raiders, 4-3.
