PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's rowing varsity eight was named the American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week on Tuesday, April 16.
The Owls' top boat grabbed a silver medal at the 2019 Knecht Cup, finishing three races in two days with fantastic results. Coxing the boat was senior Rachel Kelley, with junior Megan Cook as stroke. Seven seat was junior Kerianne McGee, followed by senior Ciara O'Sullivan (six seat), junior Emily Kiehn (five seat), sophomore Elaine Tierney (four seat), senior Gabriela Thomas (three seat), sophomore DaeAijah Covert (two seat), and sophomore Rylie Hager in bow.
At the Knecht Cup, Temple won both their heats and semis to advance to the grand finals on Sunday. In the finals, Temple finished just 4.84 seconds behind Stanford's lightweights, the defending National Champions, while topping boats from BU, Georgetown, UNC, and Harvard in the process. The Owls showed a marked improvement from their season opener, most notably against UNC. At the Murphy Cup the Owls were eight seconds behind the Tar Heels, while three weeks later, the Owls beat them by five seconds, showing over a 13-second improvement.
Temple is back in action at the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River on Saturday.
