Temple Rowing Seniors Pose with the Overall Points Trophy
Women's Rowing Wins Dad Vail Title; Owls Take Three Golds

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's rowing team made history on Saturday, winning the women's point title at the 2019 Dad Vail Regatta, while helping the Owls to the combined points trophy. Temple boats finished no lower than fifth in their finals today, while three boats earned gold.
Temple Titles
> Temple racked up 31 points on the women's side to take the trophy, ahead of second place Bucknell (27) and third place Drexel (19).
> The Owls also combined with the men's team to finish first in the overall points standings, as Temple accumulated 52 total points to top second place Drexel (46) and third place Bucknell (32).
> Temple snapped Drexel's six year winning streak for the overall title, and claimed its first women's and overall trophies since 1996.
Team Effort
> Temple raced in seven grand finals today, with all seven points earning key points towards the team title.
> Winning gold for the Owls were the second varsity eight, the second varsity four, and the third varsity eight boats.
> Temple's varsity four, freshman eight, and pair (Defuso, Johnson) were fourth overall, while the varsity eight finished fifth. The Owls also had a double (Ochinegro, Hulihen) finish fourth in the petite final for 10th overall.
Varsity Eight
> In a fast grand final, Temple's varsity eight took fifth overall in a time of 6:24.30.
Second Varsity Eight
> Temple's 2V won gold, in a speedy 6:26.860, which was over five seconds faster than the second place boat.
Varsity Four
> The Owls' varsity four took fourth overall, narrowly out of the medals, clocking in at 7:10.210.
Second Varsity Four
> It was a gold medal performance for the Temple 2V4, as the Owls clocked in at 7:11.084. The Owls claimed the top spot by a margin of 2.325 seconds.
Third Varsity Eight
> Temple grabbed its second gold of the day with a dominating effort in the third varsity eight race. The Owls clocked in at 6:40.537, over eight seconds faster than second place Drexel.
Freshman Eight
> Temple's freshmen combined for a fourth place finish, clocking in at 6:46.890. The Owls were just 1.6 seconds out of the medals.
Pair
> Temple's pair of Alex Defuso and Giana Johnson had a great effort, just missing the medal stand by .607. The duo clocked in at 7:44.539 to take fourth and earn team points for the Owls.
Double
> Temple's double of Amanda Hulihen and Hannah Ochinegro clocked in at 8:25.171 to take fourth in the petite final.
