Rowing's Second Varsity Eight Named AAC Boat of the Week

5.14.19 | Women's Rowing

PHILADELPHIA -- After a fantastic weekend of racing, Temple women's rowing's second varsity eight claimed American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week honors for the final week of the regular season.

Temple's second varsity eight dominated the historic Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the world. The Owls' 2V won gold to lead Temple to the women's and overall titles at the event for the first time since 1996.  On day one, the Owls notched a huge semifinal win through white cap conditions to earn a spot in the grand final by over a 10 second margin. In flat conditions in the grand final, Temple  won gold in a speedy 6:26.860, which was over five seconds faster than the second place boat. If they rowed as Temple's varsity eight, the Owls' 2V grand finals time would have placed them fifth in the varsity eight category.

Members of the boat included coxswain, senior Allie Nussbaum, stroked by junior Claire Savage. Seven seat was senior Victoria Brooks, followed by junior Stephanie Hartman (six seat), senior Danielle Ober (five seat), freshman Kate McCulloch (four seat), freshman Nadia Bangura (three seat), sophomore DaeAijah Covert (two seat), and sophomore Rylie Hager in bow.

Temple will race at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday in Oklahoma City, Okla. Championship central can be found here.
