After stellar individual performances during the 2019 season and at the AAC Outdoor Championships, sophomores Helene Gottlieb and Aisha Brown along with junior Millie Howard will head to Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday, May 23 to compete in the prestigious three-day East Preliminary meet, hosted by the University of North Florida. Howard and Gottlieb will represent the Cherry and White in the 1500m, while Brown will compete in the high jump at the NCAA level for the second time in her career.

Last Time Out
> Brown, Gottlieb and Howard are each coming off of podium-finishes at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Howard was crowned champion in the 1500m, while Brown and Gottlieb each brought silver medals back to North Philadelphia.
> The 1500m was one to remember for Howard and the rest of the squad after she darted towards the front of the pack on the initial straight away and never looked back. After a runner-up finish in the event just one year ago, the junior came hungry for a title and left it all on the track. Heading into the final 400m in the lead by over five seconds, Howard bolted through the finish line in 4:21.80 to capture her first-ever outdoor individual title. The first place medal was her second-ever at a conference meet after she won the indoor mile two seasons ago. The junior earned All-Conference honors and set a new AAC meet record in the event.
> In a thrilling battle for first place, Brown put on her best performance of the season in the high jump. After clearing 1.71m and 1.74m each on her first attempt, the sophomore went on to 1.77m. She cleared her third height on her third attempt, then advancing to 1.80m alongside Memphis' Saida Burns-Moore. Brown cleared 1.80m on her second attempt for her best performance of the season, but her track to get there had one more attempt than her Memphis opponent. For the second straight year, the sophomore had a runner-up finish to get on the podium, earning All-Conference honors and racking up eight points for the squad.
> After an unexpected result in the 1500m, Gottlieb was resilient to fight her way to second place in the 800m for Temple. The sophomore battled all the way through the finish line, clocking in behind only UConn's Susan Aneno at 2:10.06 to earn a silver medal. With her podium finish in the event, the gritty sophomore completed her second year at Temple as an All-AAC runner during the cross country, indoor and outdoor seasons.
Scouting the Temple Trio
> Howard, the 2019 AAC 1500m Champion, has punched her ticket to the NCAA East Preliminary for the third-straight year. She competed in the 800m for the first time on the national stage in 2017, where she finished 43rd overall with a time of 2:12.31. While she could have raced the 800m again in 2018, she instead ran the 1500m after her record-breaking time of 4:21.02 at the Ole Miss Classic placed her high in the regional standings. In the first round of the 2018 prelims, the then sophomore reset the school record to 4:18.73 to advance into Saturday's final, where she came up one spot short of the NCAA Championship meet with a 13th-place finish. This year, the junior has proved herself on the track in the event with an 11th-seeded, record-breaking time of 4:16.81 from the Bison Outdoor Classic.
> After a runner-up finish in the 800m at the AAC Outdoor Championships earned Gottlieb her fourth All-Conference accolade of the 2018-19 school year, the sophomore is hungry to make a statement at her second-ever NCAA East Preliminary meet. As a freshman, she qualified for the regional meet after clocking a personal best time of 2:07.96 to place fourth at the AAC Championships. At the 2018 regional meet, she reset the school record in the event to 2:07.10, but missed qualifying for the next round by just two spots and two tenths of a second. This year, Gottlieb will compete in the 1500m alongside Howard for the first time in her career. She qualified for the East Prelims with her 35th-seeded time of 4:20.29 from the Raleigh Relays in March.
> For the second-straight year, Brown had a dominating season in her signature event that earned her another runner-up, All-Conference finish at the AAC Championship meet. As a freshman, she qualified for the high jump after her standout jump of 1.82m at the conference meet seeded her fifth in the region and placed her 14th in the nation. At the 2018 East Preliminary meet, the then freshman fell short of her prior performance and finished 22nd with a mark of 1.70m. This year, the sophomore boasted three regular season titles and another AAC podium finish in the event to prove she is ready for redemption at the upcoming region meet.
