Assistant AD/Major Gifts Chris Jones Selected to Attend Learfield IMG College Minority Academy

PLANO, Texas – Thirteen individuals have been selected to attend the upcoming Learfield IMG College Minority Academy, which will be held June 24-28 in Dallas, in partnership with the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA). One of those 13 is Temple's Chris Jones, the Assistant AD/Major Gifts for the Owl Club.
"I'm truly honored to have been selected," said Jones. "I'm looking forward to sharing the opportunity with the 12 other recipients. I'm excited to expand my skillset to learn more about the sponsorship side of things and all else that Learfield/IMG College entails. Ultimately and most importantly, this program will allow me to even better serve Temple University athletics."
Considered to be a one-of-a-kind event, the five-day Academy launched in 2014 to foster minority growth and development in the collegiate multimedia and sponsorship sector. The Minority Academy Selection Committee closely reviewed applicants in determining final selection of the following 13 individuals to participate this summer:
Kara Adams, Washington Nationals
David Caple, ANC
Chadwick Davis, United States Military Academy
Jessica Dorsey, University of Texas
Leon Jackson III, Kansas State University
Chris Jones, Temple University
Stephanie Kimbrough, Florida State University
Malia Mack, Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame
Alexander Martin, University of Miami
Carlos McCants, Arkansas State University
Vanessa Moore, Virginia Commonwealth University
Lydell Sargeant, UCLA
Candice Vaughn, Learfield IMG College Ticket Solutions
Learfield IMG College hosts the Academy at its Texas headquarters, featuring two and a half days of classroom educational sessions dedicated to sales training, best practices and professional development.
The final two days of the Academy allow attendees to visit a Division I school, to shadow the on-campus Learfield IMG College team representing that particular collegiate institution. The Academy participants will see first-hand actual day-to-day operations of the multimedia rights relationship and have the opportunity to meet with many athletics administrators of the school they visit.
"It's rewarding to hear positive feedback from past participants, who write in every year to tell us the Academy presents a valuable opportunity and provides experiences they may not be able to participate in otherwise," said Greg Brown, president and CEO for Learfield IMG College. "We also hear from them that the Academy fills a void in the industry – that the educational sessions are full of exceptional content, and the ability to network and form relationships with members of the class as well as the speakers is invaluable. Comments like these validate and reinforce our desire for this initiative, and we're looking forward to hosting these 13 individuals in June."
The mission of MOAA is to provide opportunities to exchange ideas, advocate increased participation and administrative opportunities for minorities in athletics. MOAA also promotes generating a sports culture that supports the values necessary to teach and learn respect for self and others.
