Scouting the Owls
Friday, May 10
> Julianne Foering will open the three-day meet for the Owls on Friday at 4:30 pm in the javelin. The sophomore had her best throw of the season at the Larry Ellis Invitational, where she hit a PR mark of 41.03m.
> Running events will begin on the track at 6:30 pm and will feature four Owls competing in the 800m run. The half mile will be a thrilling one for the Owls, as sophomore Helene Gottlieb looks to reset her school record of 2:07.10 and improve upon her second-place podium finish from the indoor championship meet. Also competing in the event will be junior Millie Howard, sophomore McKenzie Gelvin and senior Ashton Dunkley, as the quartet looks to advance into finals to put points on the board for Temple.
> The sprinting duo of sophomore Mallorie Smith and junior Madison Beecher will hit the track at 7 pm for the 200m dash. Following, Sydney Williams will race in the 400m hurdles at 7:30 pm, where she will look to improve upon her best-ever time of 1:02.74 from the Rider invitational earlier this season.
> At 7:55 pm, the distance pair of sophomore Michelle Joyce and senior Katie Leisher will compete under the lights in the 10,000m run. No strangers to a late-night 10K, the duo shined in the event earlier in the season at the Raleigh Relays. Joyce hit a massive PR of 35:48.42 and Leisher finished near after in 35:54.27 to close out the top-10 in a national-class field.
Saturday, May 11
> On Saturday, sophomores Candus Burks and Kayla Nesbitt-McEwen will get Temple started in the long jump at 3 pm. Burks, who had the furthest jump of the season for the Owls, will look to best her mark of 5.63m from the Rider Invite, and Nesbitt-McEwen will strive to reset her PR of 5.39m.
> Williams will return on the track at 5:30 pm for the 100m hurdles. The sophomore had her best time of 14.28 in the finals at the Larry Ellis Invitational just two meets ago, and will look to carry this momentum into her second-ever short sprint race at the conference meet.
> In another riveting middle distance event, the Cherry and White will put four on the track for the 1500m prelims at 6 pm. Howard, who reset her own school record to 4:16.81 just a few weeks ago and has led the conference for the majority of the season, will look to capture the title after her second-place podium finish in 2018. Gottlieb, who sits one spot behind Howard on the AAC performance list, will also be a fierce competitor in the event after her PR of 4:20.29 from earlier in the year. Dunkley will also look to advance after making finals in the event in 2018 with a time of 4:41.26. Gelvin will be in contention alongside their teammates, illustrating the Owls' strong contingent of mid-distance runners.
> Temple will be back in the sprints at 6:30 pm, when freshman Marissa White will run her AAC Outdoor race alongside Smith, who will be back for her second event on the weekend. After advancing to the finals and finishing fourth in the event at the indoor conference meet, White shined on the outdoor track this season. Continuing a compelling freshman campaign, she hit a PR of 54.62 to win the Charlotte Invitational and run the fastest time for the Owls this season. Smith has made consistent improvement in the quarter mile alongside her teammate, clocking a PR of 56.35 just a few weeks ago.
> Closing out day two of competition, Lucy Jones will compete in the 3000m steeplechase at 7:30 pm. A steady competitor for the Owls all season, the sophomore reset her own school record in her signature event to 10:36.10 at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Now, she looks to best her freshman year finish of sixth at the championship meet, where she hit a time of 10:39.36 a year ago.
Sunday, May 12
> The final day of the championship meet will begin at 2:30 pm in the triple jump. Burks and Nesbitt-McEwen will be back in action for their second jumps event of the weekend, as Nesbitt-McEwen looks to best her team-leading mark of 12.23m and Burks builds off of her medal-winning performance at the Penn Relays two weeks ago.
> At 4:30, Nesbitt-McEwen will be back for her third event of the weekend, joined by standout-sophomore Aisha Brown in the high jump. As a freshman, Brown hit a PR of 1.82m at the conference meet to earn all-conference honors with a runner-up finish. She continued this success during her sophomore regular-season, taking three individual event titles and earning a medal at the Penn Relays to prepare herself well for the conference meet.
> The Owls will race two relays this weekend, with the 4x1 set for 4:30 pm followed by the 4x4 at 7:45 pm. In its last individual event of the weekend, Temple will be represented by two student-athletes in the 5K. Joyce and Leisher will be back in the event after two solid performances under the lights at the Penn Relays two weeks ago.

Top-10 Owls
> The mid-distance duo of Gottlieb and Howard have maintained their spots in the top-10 of the American's performance lists going into the championship meet. Gottlieb remains in second in the 800m, behind only UConn's Susan Aneno, and Howard sits in ninth. In the 1500m, Howard leads the conference with her school record-breaking time of 4:16.81, and Gottlieb sits one spot back with her time of 4:20.29 from the Raleigh Relays.
> In the distance events, Leisher rounds out the top-10 in the 5K after finishing in 17:07.99 at the 125th Penn Relays and Joyce sits in 10th in the 10K with her season's-best time of 35:48.42. In the steeplechase, Jones holds her place as sixth in the American with her school-record time of 10:36.10.
> In the field, Brown's high jump mark of 1.76m is the second best jump in the conference this season, entering the championship seeded just being Memphis' Saida Burns-Moore.
