Nussbaum, Ober Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Rowing Team; Nussbaum Tabbed Performer of the Year

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's rowing student-athletes Allie Nussbaum and Danielle Ober were honored for their athletic and academic achievements, as two of nine named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. In addition, Nussbaum was named the Performer of the Year, the first such honor for a Temple student-athlete since 2014.

The team is nominated and voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Both Nussbaum (coxswain) and Ober (five seat) were members of Temple's decorated second varsity eight boat this season. The crew raced to gold at the Dad Vail Regatta, helping the Owls to win the women's and overall points trophies at the famed event. The boat also nabbed gold at the Kerr Cup and Knecht Cup Regattas, while tying the program's best 2V finish with a bronze medal at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships.

Nussbaum, a native of Andover, Mass., earned her degree in early childhood education in May. The only repeat selection on the Academic All-Area team, she is also a three-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. Her cumulative GPA was the third highest amongs all of Temple's student-athletes, earning her a spot on the department's Trustee Ten for the second straight year. Nussbaum completed her student teaching while competing for the Owls and has a coaching internship with the USRowing U19 National Team this summer.

Ober, a native of Manheim, Pa., also earned her degree in early childhood education in May. As a student-athlete, she set Temple's varsity 2K erg record and is also in the top-five on the program's 30-minute and 6K erg lists. A three-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, she completed her student teaching while rowing at Temple, and will head to graduate school next. 

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
