Four Owls among the Leaders at the Eastern Amateur

7.11.19 | Men's Golf

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Temple golf is well represented at the Eastern Amateur as 2019 graduate Trey Wren and incoming freshman Graham Chase are among the top 25 after the first day of play Thursday.  Rising junior Dawson Anders and redshirt freshman Anthony Barr were also in the mix with two-over par 72s.

Wren, who earned all-district honors as a senior this past year, carded a three-under 67 to tie for seventh overall while Chase finished with a one-under 69 to end his day tied for 24th.   Wren played near flawless golf, making four birdies to his lone bogey.  Anders Graham had an up-and-down round, making five birdies while turning in four bogeys.

One of the top amateur tournaments, the Eastern Amateur has been played since 1957 and has been won by some PGA greats like Ben Crenshaw, Curtis Strange and Andy Bean.  The four-day tournament is held at the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club.

Kevin Johnson (Bethesda, Md.), leads the 156-player field with a seven-under 63.
