PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University men's soccer team has been picked to finished fifth in the 2019 American Athletic Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league coaches. Highlighting the individual honors, senior captain Lukas Fernandes has been unanimously selected to the AAC Preseason All-Conference team for the first time in his career.
Fernandes propels himself into his final season in Cherry and White after a breakout junior campaign. The Rochester, N.Y. native finished the 2018 season as the squad's leader in points (16), goals (6), assists (4) and game-winning goals (3). In the fall, he earned All-Conference nods after being tabbed AAC Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions and landed a spot on the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star team.
The coaches voted UCF as the favorite to win the league title, as the Knights earned all seven possible first-place votes. UCF totaled 49 points to nudge fellow NCAA tournament qualifier and defending conference champion SMU (42 votes) for the top spot in the league.
