Friday's Brace Earns Fernandes AAC Weekly Honor Roll Honors
9.16.19 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – After notching his first-ever collegiate brace to propel the Temple men's soccer team to a dominating 3-0 win over the previously unbeaten Lafayette Leopards, senior captain Lukas Fernandes has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Sept. 16. The honors are the fourth of Fernandes' career and the first for the Owls this season.
Fernandes was a powerful component in lighting the fire for the Temple offense during last Friday's win over Lafayette. Building off of the Owls first goal in the 23rd minute, Fernandes' capitalized on the momentum to put the squad up by two just two minutes later. After receiving a stellar through ball from freshman Sean Karani, the senior composed himself in the box to beat the Lafayette keeper one-on-one and secure his first goal of the season. In the second half, he proved his offensive abilities once again when he converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute, sealing the deal on Temple's first win of the season. The 2019 AAC Preseason All-Conference honoree earned the brace for the first time in his career while tying his career-best single-game point total of four to help lead the squad to victory. He also fired off a team-high eight shots on Friday, five of which went on target.
The Owls will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 17 to host the Delaware Blue Hens. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at the Temple Sports Complex.
