PHILADELPHIA -- Temple Athletics has announced the hiring of Corey Fortunato as Business Operations Coordinator, beginning in September, 2019.

"I am excited to welcome Corey to our Temple Athletics family," said Tim Thiess, Associate Athletics Director for Finance and Administration. "The experience and passion he brings to Temple will prove to be a vital asset to our department."

Fortunato comes to Temple from Las Americas ASPIRA Academy, where he served as Athletic Director, a physical education teacher, and basketball coach at the Delaware charter school. In his role there, he oversaw all athletic operations including scheduling, human resource management, staffing, facility management, and finances.

"I want to thank Tim Thiess, Tiffany Howard, Vinnie James and the rest of the hiring committee for this outstanding career opportunity" said Fortunato. "I am thrilled to become part of the Temple Athletics team, and I look forward to collaborating with fellow staff members to continue the success Temple University has achieved in collegiate athletics."

Prior to arriving at Las Americas ASPIRA Academy, Fortunato was a physical education teacher at the Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington, Del. He served as lead physical education teacher for grades K-5 at Richey Elementary.

Fortunato spent 10 years at the Kennett Area YMCA in Kennett Square, Pa., serving in various roles, including sports coordinator, coach, physical education supervisor, and referee. At the YMCA, he oversaw all aspects of youth and adult athletic leagues including planning, advertising, scheduling and operations.

Fortunato earned a degree in physical education and health education teacher education from West Virginia in 2014. He went on to get his master's degree in sports management with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration from California University of Pennsylvania in 2018.
