Golf Opens Play at Firestone Invitational Monday

AKRON, Ohio – Temple Golf travels to the historic Firestone Country Club this week to take part in the 2019 Firestone Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The 7,125-yard, par-72 course is a regular stop on the PGA Tour and has played host to three PGA Championships.
Previewing the Owls
> Temple will look to improve upon a rough 11th place showing at the River Run Collegiate last week. The Owls played well in the opening round on Sept. 23, shooting a three-over 291 to tie for third before struggling the final two rounds.
> Temple coach Brian Quinn is going with his same top four golfers as he has in the previous two tournaments. Junior Dawson Anders (74.33), sophomore Conor McGrath (74.00), senior Liam McGrath (75.67) and freshman Graham Chase (75.33) will play one through four with sophomore Buddy Hansen (80.00) replacing freshman Danny Nguyen (77.50) as the fifth man. Nguyen will play as the team's individual.
> Temple tied for 8th at the 2018 Firestone Invitational with Conor McGrath the only Owl who played the tournament last year.
The Field
> Host and defending champion Akron leads a 15-team field that includes Bowling Green, Dartmouth, Dayton, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, IUPUI, Old Dominion, Ohio, Santa Clara, South Carolina Aiken, William & Mary, Winthrop and Youngstown State.
> The Owls are paired with Dartmouth and South Carolina Aiken with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 am Monday.
