Men’s Basketball Looks to End Skid at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – Temple (10-9/2-5 AAC) will be looking to break out of a three-game losing streak when the Owls take on UConn Wednesday night (7 pm/ESPNews/1210 AM WPHT) at Gampel Pavilion. Both teams enter the game on skids as UConn has lost four straight (10-9/1-5 AAC) and, like Temple, has won only one of its seven games in January.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple, under the direction of first-year head coach Aaron McKie, sports a balanced attack with two players averaging double figures and another five averaging 5.3 points or more.
> Senior guard Quinton Rose, who has topped 20 points in each of the last two games, leads the Cherry and White (4th in the AAC) in scoring (15.4 ppg), assists (3.5 apg/9th AAC) and free throw percentage (.792/8th AAC) while placing second in steals (2.0 spg/4th in AAC).
> Junior guard Nate Pierre-Louis, who scored a career-high 22-points vs. Cincinnati, leads Temple in rebounding (8.4 rpg/5th AAC) and steals (2.1/3rd AAC), while ranking second in scoring (11.1 ppg) and assists (2.8 apg).
> Senior Alani Moore II (8.3 ppg) has doubled his offensive output from last year (4.1 ppg) and is fourth in the AAC in threes per game (2.1) and seventh in three-point percentage (40-103, .388).
> Rounding out the starting five are sophomore Jake Forrester (8.8 ppg/4.7 rpg) and junior J.P. Moorman II (5.5 ppg), who ranks second on the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg).
> Junior De'Vondre Perry (6.7 ppg), who ranks second in the AAC in three-point percentage (.435), redshirt junior Monty Scott (5.3 ppg) and freshman Josh Pierre-Louis (4.4 ppg) have provided the most impact from the Owls' deep bench. Perry has missed the last two games due to a toe injury while Pierre-Louis was out with the flu for the Penn game.

> UConn, under the direction of second-year head coach Dan Hurley, are led by senior Christian Vital, who tops the team in scoring (14.0 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg) and steals (2.4 spg/2nd AAC).
> Four other Huskies average just under double figures in scoring: freshman James Booknight (9.8 ppg), junior Tyler Polley (9.5 ppg), redshirt junior Alterique Gilbert (9.4 ppg) and junior Josh Carlton (8.9 ppg). Gilbert leads UConn and ranks third in the conference in assists per game (4.6 apg).
> Redshirt freshman Akok Akok (6.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg) leads the AAC in blocks (3.0 bpg) while Carlton ranks sixth (1.3 bpg).
> The Huskies current four-game losing streak includes defeats to three Top 25 teams (Wichita State,at Villanova, at Houston) and to the current AAC co-leader Tulsa.
