PHILADELPHIA – The Rimington Trophy Committee announced today that C.J. Perez has been named to the 2020 Rimington Trophy Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is handed out annually to the nation's most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football.
Perez, a graduate transfer from Northern Illinois, is the starting center for a Temple Owls offensive line that did not allow a sack in the opening game against Navy. Perez currently grades as the third-best pass blocking center in the nation (83.9), according to Pro Football Focus.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman. Perez joins 96 other players who were named to the watch list, five of those coming from the American Athletic Conference: Alan Ali (SMU), Brad Cecil (USF), Sincere Haynesworth (Tulane), Jakari Robinson (Cincinnati), and Gerard Wheeler (Tulsa).
