PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple gymnastics team will be moving to a new conference beginning with the 2021 season. The Owls will make the jump from the ECAC to the East Atlantic Gymnastic League (EAGL) in time for the start of the competition season in January. EAGL Logo

"After years of strong competition in the ECAC, including back-to-back titles, we are excited for our women's gymnastics team to take the next step," said Acting Director of Athletics Fran Dunphy. "The EAGL is a great fit for our team and will position us to achieve our long term goals. We thank the ECAC and their leadership throughout many seasons of competition and we wish them well."

The EAGL, which has competed in NCAA Gymnastics since 1996, is comprised of seven other institutions - George Washington University, Long Island University, the University of New Hampshire, the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, Towson University, and the University of Pittsburgh. UNC and NC State lead the EAGL with five conference titles each, but UNH won the most recent championship in 2019. EAGL schools own 137 total NCAA team bids in 38 years.

"I am grateful to the ECAC and the wonderful gymnastics coaches in that organization, we have made many great memories in competitions over the last two years," noted Head Coach Josh Nilson. "We are now turning the page and entering the EAGL conference. To be invited into this incredibly prestigious gymnastics conference is truly an honor. The EAGL will be a challenging step up for us competitively, but we can't wait to bring Temple gymnastics to the next level. Our team has worked very hard, and I am humbled and grateful to be able to lead these wonderful young athletes into a bright new future of EAGL competition."

Temple spent 14 seasons in the ECAC, taking two titles (2020, 2019), and winning 13 event titles at the conference championships.
