Temple Football Adds 17 in Class of 2021

PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football signed 17 student-athletes to the Class of 2021 today as part of the early signing period. Twelve players will enter Temple directly from high school, while five players transfer in, four from Power 5 schools.

Kevin Copp will have interviews with head coach Rod Carey, offensive coordinator Mike Uremovich, defensive coordinator Jeff Knowles, and director of player personnel Nate McNeal as they breakdown the Class of 2021. The 17 players come from nine different states: Florida (1), Illinois (2), Maryland (3), Michigan (2), New Jersey (1), New York (2), North Carolina (1), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (4).
The five transfers all travel to 10th and Diamond from different schools. Keyshawn Paul (UConn) is the most familiar with the Owls as the defensive back played against Temple in 2018 and 2019. Amad Anderson Jr. joins forces again with former teammate Darius Pittman from Purdue. Ra'Von Bonner (Illinois) rejoins wide receivers' coach Thad Ward after serving as Bonner's position coach at Illinois in 2018. D'Wan Mathis (Georgia) turns back time, joining fellow childhood camp teammate M.J. Griffin. Like Anderson Jr., Bonner, and Mathis, Willie Rodgers (Washington State) joins the Owls from another Power 5 school.
Temple recruited five players from right down the street as Malik Cooper (Philadelphia), Andrew Garwo (Levittown), Balansama Kamara (Philadelphia), Jordan Laudato (West Chester), and Corey Palmer (Camden) all come from within an hour of North Philadelphia.
Kamara played under head coach Rich Drayton. Drayton, a former Temple wide receiver from 1987-1990, ranks tenth all-time in receiving yards for Temple.
Malik Cooper and Temple's running back coach Gabe Infante are quite familiar with each other as Cooper was recruited by Infante while he was the head coach at St. Joe's Prep.
The 2021 season will get underway in 261 days on Saturday, September 4, when Temple travels to Rutgers to take on the Scarlet Knights. Three other non-conference games are scheduled [at Akron (9/11), Boston College (9/18), and Wagner (9/25)]. The American Athletic Conference games are expected to be announced in February.
