Women’s Basketball to Take on Tulsa Wednesday Morning

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team will look to win their second-straight American Athletic Conference game as they welcome Tulsa to McGonigle Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 23 for an 11 a.m. tip-off.

THE OWLS
> Temple is coming off their first win of the season as they topped SMU 73-57 at home on Dec. 20. The Cherry and White enter Wednesday's game with a record of 1-3 (1-0 AAC).
> Senior Mia Davis averages a double-double of 23.8 points and 10.3 rebounds to lead the Owls.
> Senior Emani Mayo is the second leading scorer for Temple with 9.5 points per contest and adds 5.5 boards each game. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander leads Temple in the assist column with 5.0 per game. The guard has also been a force on the boards, averaging 7.5 rebounds per outing. 
> Graduate transfer Jada Graves has added a spark for Temple on both the offensive and defensive ends. The guard leads the Owls in both field goal percentage (56.3%) and steals (8).

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 73, SMU 57
> The Owls won their first game of the season with an American Athletic Conference victory over SMU at home.
> Temple used a late first quarter run to take a lead it would not relinquish.
> SMU hung around, staying within three at the half.
> A huge third quarter saw the Owls outscore the Mustangs 24-6 putting the game mostly out of reach. 
> The Owls then held off some late fourth quarter pressure from SMU to seal the win.
> Temple held SMU to just 28% shooting, while holding a 50-43 rebounding edge.
> Davis led the Owls on both ends of the floor, notching her second double-double of the season and the 37th of her career, finishing with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
> Sophomore Alexa Williamson was one point off her career best, tallying a season-best 15 points.
> Freshman Jasha Clinton finished with a team-best five assists, adding seven points and seven boards.
> Alexander chipped in with six points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Graves and sophomore Rayniah Walker each added six points.

SCOUTING TULSA
> The Golden Hurricane arrive in Philadelphia with a record of 1-1 (0-1 AAC). 
> Wyvette Mayberry leads Tulsa with 13.0 points per game, followed by older sister Maya with 12.0 per contest. 
> Leading Tulsa on the boards is Elin Hrafnkelsdottir with 6.5 rebounds per game. The Kopavogur, Iceland native adds 8.0 per outing.
> Rebecca Lescay totals a team-high six steals on the year, while averaging 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per night. 
> The Golden Hurricane have shot 34.8% across their opening two games, including 33.3% from long range. 

LAST TIME OUT: UCF 53, Tulsa 42
> Tulsa lost their conference opener at home to UCF on Dec. 19. 
> The Mayberry sisters were the only two players of the Golden Hurricane to notch double-digit points with Maya collecting 11 and Wyvette adding 10. 
> What hurt Tulsa the most was their three-point shooting. The Golden Hurricane finished 14.3% (2-14) from beyond the arc. Their lone pair of triples came in the first quarter, which was the only quarter they outscored UCF. 
> The Knights held Tulsa to just four points in the second frame to build a lead they would never relinquish. 

TEMPLE VS. TULSA
> Temple leads 7-3 in the all-time series against the Golden Hurricane.
> The first meeting between the two programs came on Feb. 10, 2015 in Tulsa, Okla., where the Owls fell 75-67.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Tulsa 68, Temple 64
> The Owls fell to Tulsa 68-64 on Feb. 29, 2020 at home. 
> Tulsa held the Owls to 38.5% from the field and just 35% from three.
> Temple out rebounded Tulsa 41-33, but suffered from 19 turnovers in the game.
> Tulsa jumped out to an early lead going up by four after the first quarter.
> The Owls tied things up at the half, and then took a slim lead with a 19-17 edge in the third quarter.
> Tulsa finished out the game by outscoring the Owls 20-14 in the final frame.
> JDavis tallied 13 points with 10 rebounds for yet another double-double.
> Williamson tallied eight points with six boards, while graduate student Lena Niang also added eight points.
