Millie Howard Named AAC Track Athlete of the Week

PHILADELPHIA – After a phenomenal performance on the track last weekend, senior Millie Howard has been named the American Athletic Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 17. Howard, the 2019 AAC Outdoor 1500m champion and 2018 AAC Indoor mile champion, earned the honors for the first time this season after picking up Under Armour/Owlsports.com Athlete of the Week nods for her performance as well.
The North Yorkshire, England native was outstanding at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational this past Friday. At Temple's regular-season finale for its indoor slate, the senior ran the mile in 4:36.37 to clock the 17th-fastest time in the nation this season. Her time shattered Temple's program record in the event by over four seconds, formerly set by Temple track and field standout Blanca Fernandez back in 2015 (4:40.60). In one of the best performances of her career, Howard crushed her previous personal record in the event by almost 10 seconds to run the fastest time in the American by over three seconds.
This weekend, the Owls will send Howard and the rest of the distance medley relay down to North Carolina for one last shot at the DMR. The squad then prepares to head to Birmingham, Ala. for the 2020 American Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 28-29.
