Women’s Basketball Looks to Bounce Back at UCF

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team looks to return to the win column as they head to UCF on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a 6 p.m. conference tip-off.
THE OWLS
> Temple arrives in Orlando, Fla. following a heartbreaking 56-50 loss at ECU on Feb. 22. The Owls are currently ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference with a record of 15-11 (7-6 AAC).
> Junior Mia Davis leads Temple with 18.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Her boards per night leads the American.
> A Cheryl Miller Award top 10 finalist, Davis totals 15 double-doubles on the season to tie for fifth-most in the nation.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones adds 16.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
> Marissa Mackins is the third Owl to average double-digit points with 13.1 per night. Mackins leads Temple and ranks second in the American with 70 three-pointers this season.
> Graduate student Lena Niang is the second leading rebounder for Temple with 5.6 boards per game. Niang nets 7.5 points per game.
> Rounding out the top-five shooters for Temple is sophomore Alexa Williamson, who adds 5.9 points per outing.
> Freshman Asonah Alexander is second in the American with 112 assists on the year, averaging 4.3 per game. Her assist/turnover ratio of 2.67 ranks first in the conference and 10th in the country.
LAST TIME OUT: ECU 56, Temple 50
> After Temple led 22-11 at the end of the first quarter, ECU outscored the Owls in the remaining three frames to earn the come-from-behind win on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Greenville, N.C.
> The Owls held a slight edge on the boards, outrebounding ECU 38-37.
> Temple also recorded a better field goal percentage than the Pirates (36.4% to 32.8%). But the Owls struggled from three-point range, shooting just 24% from beyond the arc (6-25).
> The Pirates converted Temple's 19 turnovers into 14 points.
> Davis collected her 15th double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
> Jones led Temple with 14 points and five assists.
> Mackins and Alexa Williamson each notched six points.

> Kay Kay Wright leads the Knights with 16.7 points and 3.9 assists per game.
> Wright was recently named the AAC Player of the Week for the second time this season on Feb. 17 after leading UCF to a pair of wins with her averages of 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
> Masseny Kaba leads the Knights on the boards with 6.7 rebounds per outing. Kaba adds 8.5 points to her stat line each game.
> Brittney Smith is the second leading scorer and rebounder for UCF, chipping in 10.8 points and 5.1 boards per contest.
> The Knights are one of the better defensive teams in the conference as their opponents average just 57.5 points per game.

> After a 30-30 halftime tie, Temple had a huge start to the third quarter, going up 48-36 and seemingly creating breathing room. However, UCF answered, getting the lead down to one.
> A back-and-fourth fourth quarter saw the Owls do just enough down the stretch, as Temple won its fifth conference game of the year.
