Women’s Basketball Falls Short at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. — Junior Mia Davis notched her 16th double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Temple women's basketball team fell to UCF Wednesday evening at Addition Financial Arena. The Knights improve to 17-9 (9-5 AAC) while the Owls fall to 15-12 (7-7 AAC). 

Keys to the Game
> UCF shot 45.5% from the floor and 66.7% from three-point range as the Owls were held to 40.7% from the field and just 26.7% from beyond the arc. 
> Temple controlled the action on the boards, outrebounding the Knights 43-29. 
> The Owls were forced into 14 turnovers, which converted into 19 points for UCF. 

Individual Highlights
> Davis led Temple with 23 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. 
> Redshirt-sophomore Ashley Jones was the second-highest scoring Owl with 16 points while junior Emani Mayo collected a season-high 11 points. 
> Senior Shannen Atkinson added seven points and 10 rebounds and registered the Owls' lone block of the game.  

First Quarter 
> UCF outshot the Owls 50% to 38.5% from the floor in the first quarter as they held the lead until the final second. 
> At the 2:29 mark, Mayo knocked down a three-pointer to bring Temple within one point. 
> The Knights extended their lead to three following a tough jumpshot by Kay Kay Wright, but the Owls answered with a Davis layup and two foul shots from Jones to take a one-point advantage heading into the second frame. 

Second Quarter 
> Davis opened up the second half with a pair buckets in the paint to put Temple up by five. 
> UCF continued to work their way back and kept themselves within two tallies for over two and a half minutes of play before Diamond Battles sunk two foul shots to give the Knights a one-point edge.  
> However, Mayo answered with another triple on the next possession to put Temple back on top.
> Each team held on to a brief lead before Jones hit a long-range three and Atkinson added a second-chance jumper to put the Owls on top before the half. 

Third Quarter
> The Knights made the first shot of the second half to tie the game before Davis collected two foul shots and a second-chance jumper to make it 36-33 in Temple's favor. 
> Wright scored nine points as she led the Knights to outsore Temple 19-11 in the third quarter.
> Temple outrebounded UCF 14-6 in the third stanza, including eight offensive boards. However, the Owls were unable to capitalize on their second chances as they shot 25% from the floor. 
> The Knights ended the quarter on a 6-1 run as they held a 49-43 lead heading into the final ten minutes. 

Fourth Quarter
> The teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the fourth before Temple went on a 6-0 to tie the game at 59 with 2:50 on the clock. 
> UCF followed with a 5-0 run of their own before Davis put back an offensive board to keep the Owls within three heading into the final minute. 
> After a shot clock violation by Temple, the Knights received the ball at half court and were immediately fouled upon inbounding the ball. 
> Sianni Martin hit one-of-two foul shots before the Owls charged down the court for one final offensive possession.
> Mayo was then fouled on an attempted three and made the trio of foul shots to bring Temple within one point with two seconds remaining. 
> The Knights then returned to the charity stripe and Wright sealed the win with two good free throws.
