Senior Spotlight: Stephanie Hartman, Rowing

3/30/2020

A four-year member of the Owls, Stephanie Hartman was part of the 2019 team that captured both the Dad Vail overall and women’s points trophies. She contributed to Temple’s success immediately, racing in both novice and varsity boats as a freshman and was a mainstay in the Owls’ varsity boats throughout her career. Hartman moved up to the top varsity eight boat and helped Temple to tie its highest ever team finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships in 2018, and also won a gold medal with the Owls’ 2V8 at the Dad Vail Regatta. She owns an AAC bronze with the 2V8 in 2019 and a gold with the varsity four at the 2019 Murphy Cup. Hartman will graduate in May with a degree in kinesiology with a pre-health concentration.

In the book of your life, what’s the title of the Temple chapter?   In the book of my life the title of the Temple chapter would be “Once an Owl, Always an Owl.”

What’s the best part about being a member of the crew team at Temple/what will you miss the most?   The best part of being part of the rowing team at Temple is consistently feeling unconditional support and love by each and every teammate and coach. I will miss seeing my teammates every day and competing with them to push ourselves and ultimately the team to find new levels of speed.

What is your favorite memory of being a student-athlete at Temple?  My favorite memory of being a student athlete at Temple would be my junior year when we competed at Dad Vails for the first year of my Temple rowing career. Winning gold in the 2v8+ race and ultimately taking home the overall team points trophy was especially a proud moment of my career. This was one of many moments over the past four years as a student-athlete that I was proud to say “I am a Temple Owl.”

If you could give advice to your freshman year self, what would it be?  If I could give advice to my freshmen year self I would say to live in the moment. Four years seems like a long time, but it passes by quicker than you would ever imagine. Embrace and celebrate each moment and celebrate even the small gains.

Where do you see yourself in five years?  In five years I see myself graduated from Pharmacy school with my doctorate in pharmacy. I hope to begin my career in the pharmaceutical field where I would work with other health care professionals developing cutting edge enhancements in medicine.

I would like to thank my family for their love and support and all the faculty and coaches at Temple who have supported me through my four years.
