#8 Women’s Basketball Falls to #1 UConn in AAC Quarterfinal

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Junior Mia Davis recorded a team-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough as the Temple women's basketball team fell to nationally-ranked UConn 94-61 Saturday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Keys to the Game
> The Huskies outshot Temple 46% to 36.2% from the floor and 53.8% to 18.5% from three-point range.
> UConn used a big second quarter, outscoring the Owls 32-15, to create a comfortable lead they would never give up.
> Aubrey Griffin gave the Huskies momentum in the game-changing quarter as she added nine points and seven rebounds.
Individual Highlights
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Owls.
> Sophomore Alexa Williamson also pulled down five boards to tie for a team-best.
> Graduate student Lena Niang and freshman Asonah Alexander both chipped in eight points to round out the box score.
First Quarter
> Temple opened the game on a 9-2 run before a pair of foul shots and three-pointer by the Huskies cut the lead to two.
> Davis worked to extend the lead with a layup, but UConn responded with another trey to keep it within one.
> Olivia Nelson-Ododa gave the Huskies their first lead of the game on a made putback.
> Davis tied it up at 13 with 15 seconds left in the first, but Aubrey Griffin was fouled on a made bucket to give the Huskies a 15-13 edge at the end of the first 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
> The Huskies outscored Temple 8-5 in the first three minutes of the second frame to take a 24-18 lead.
> UConn then went on to shoot 85.7% (6-for-7) from three-point range as they extended their lead 47-28 at the half.
Third Quarter
> Temple was outscored 26-18 in the third stanza as the Huskies continued to build their lead.
> The Owls continued to struggle from long range as they were only able to connect on two of their seven attempts.
> UConn finished the third quarter 50% from the field, though they only registered 33% from beyond the arc.
Fourth Quarter
> The Huskies' hot three-point shooting came back in the fourth quarter as they shot 50% from long range.
