Millie Howard Earns Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Honors

PHILADELPHIA – Temple track and field senior Millie Howard added another accolade to her impressive academic and athletic resume on Thursday, landing a spot on the 2020 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Track and Field team. Also the 2020 NCAA Division I Women's Track and Field Elite 90 Award recipient and a member of Temple's 2019 Trustee Ten, Howard earned the honor after compiling a 3.98 GPA over her seven semesters as an economics major.
Howard will go down in history as one of the best middle distance runners to ever spike up in Cherry and White. The North Yorkshire, England native earned all-conference nods eight times throughout her illustrious career and currently holds three individual and five relay records. This season, she earned All-AAC honors in all three events that she ran, individually finishing second in the mile and third in the 800m to help the Owls to their first-ever podium sweep in the event. She also anchored Temple's distance medley relay that shattered the conference record, clocking in at 11:14.87 to earn gold.
At the end of an outstanding indoor season, the senior punched her first-ever ticket to the national championship meet after running a school-record mile time of 4:36.37 at the Boston Invitational. This time marked the fastest run by any American Athletic Conference female since the formation of the conference in 2013 and earned her a bib as an 11-seed our of 16 qualifiers in New Mexico. While the 2020 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships were canceled as a result of COVID-19, Howard left the meet with one of the most prestigious awards to culminate what it means to be a student-athlete when she became Temple's second-ever Elite 90 Award recipient.
Howard earned Academic All-Area nods for the third straight season and was one of 10 student-athletes selected this year. Voting was conducted by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
