PHILADELPHIA –  Temple University set a new school record with 10 of its athletic teams receiving NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP) Public Recognition. This recognition honors the Top 10 percent of Division I teams across the nation for their multi-year academic performance. The previous school mark was seven, established in 2017 and matched again in 2018 and 2019.

Temple is one of only eight Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools to have 10 or more of its programs publicly recognized. The other FBS schools with 10 or more programs recognized include: Stanford (16), Northwestern (14), Notre Dame (13), Arizona State (12), Navy (11), California (10) and Duke (10).

"Having ten of our programs recognized for academic success puts us in elite company across the country and is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes and the tremendous support of our coaches and academic support staff led by Justin Miller," said Temple's Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "Our commitment to a world-class student athlete experience, to academics and to winning championships is not just words but rather a daily quest for everyone associated with Temple Athletics."

This is the second straight year that Temple led the American Athletic Conference in APP Public Recognition.

Men's tennis is being recognized for a eighth year in a row, while men's cross country and women's tennis made the list for a sixth straight year. Men's basketball, women's cross country and women's soccer were all honored by the NCAA for a fourth consecutive year. Women's volleyball makes its second straight appearance on the list with women's fencing, women's gymnastics and women's lacrosse rounding out the Owls' 10 honored programs.

Historically, Temple has earned 47 public recognitions since 2010 which ties for 16th among all FBS institutions.  Since 2015, Temple teams have been recognized 31 times, ranking 12th among FBS schools.

The Academic Performance Program (APP) is designed to ensure Division I student-athletes receive exemplary educational and intercollegiate-athletics experiences. The APP encourages student-athlete graduation through a reward and penalty system directly tied to a team's academic performance. The APP umbrella covers both the Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
