Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest to Tulane

NEW ORLEANS — Temple's second-half shooting woes proved to be the deciding factor as the Owls fell at Tulane 80-44 Saturday afternoon at Avron B. Fogelman Arena at the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave improved to 9-5 (5-4 AAC) while Temple fell to 5-6 (5-3 AAC).
How It Happened
> Tulane used a big 30-point third quarter to propel themselves past the Owls as Temple registered just nine points in the second half.
> The Green Wave ended the game shooting 55.7% (34-61) from the floor while the Owls shot 30.2% (16-53) from the field.
> Tulane won the battle of the boards, pulling down 40 to Temple's season-low 29.
> Both teams struggled from both the foul line and three-point range. The Green Wave shot 25% from beyond the arc while the Owls' shot just 20%. Each team registered a free throw percentage of 50.
Statistically Speaking
> Junior Alexa Williamson led the Owls with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
> Senior Mia Davis added a team-high 14 points for Temple along with a career-best four steals, four rebounds and three assists.
> Sophomore Rayniah Walker chipped in a career-high 10 points, five of which came from the foul line.
First Quarter: Tulane 21, Temple 16
> The Green Wave shot 57.1% (8-14) from the floor as they controlled the tempo for the majority of the first quarter.
> Temple hit foul trouble early on with Emani Mayo and Asonah Alexander each picking up two within the first seven minutes of action.
> The Owls finished the first frame on a 5-0 run, not allowing Tulane to score after their good free throw at 2:29, to cut the deficit to five points.
Second Quarter: Temple 35, Tulane 34
> Temple had more energy on offense in the second quarter as they went on to outscore Tulane 19-13.
> The Owls' defensive intensity forced the Green Wave to commit five turnovers, giving Temple seven points off turnovers.
> The Cherry and White registered a field goal percentage of 66.7 (8-12) in the second set of 10 minutes.
> 12 of the Owls' 19 second-quarter points came in the paint, six of which came from Williamson.
Third Quarter: Tulane 64, Temple 41
> Temple struggled coming out of the break as they went on a scoring drought from the 9:23 mark until a foul shot by Williamson at 2:15.
> The Green Wave went on a 24-0 run over the span of six and a half minutes.
> Tulane finished the quarter outscoring the Owls 30-6.
Fourth Quarter: Tulane 80, Temple 44
> The scoring woes continued for Temple in the fourth quarter. The Owls were unable to knock down a shot until the 5:43 mark with a pair of free throws from Walker.
> The Green wave went on to outscore Temple 16-3 in the final frame.
