Burlington, N.C. – Temple Golf, which has posted top five finishes in each of its first three tournaments, will take part in the 15-team Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University. The tournament will be a two-day, 54-hole event with two rounds on Monday (Oct. 11) followed by 18 holes on Tuesday at the 6,867-yard, par-71 Alamance Country Club.
Previewing the Tournament
> Conor McGrath, who was named American Athletic Conference Co-Golfer of the Month earlier in the week, is off to the best start by any Temple golfer in school history. He owns a team-best 69.14 stroke average and has been par or under in six of the seven rounds this season.
> Three other Owls, Dawson Anders (72.29), Ethan Whitney (72.57) and Graham Chase (72.71), have provided head coach Brian Quinn with consistent play throughout the first three tournaments. The team's other starter, Joey Morganti, is not far behind with a 74.0 stroke average.
> Besides McGrath's team-leading six par/below par rounds, all four of Temple's other starters have had three rounds at/below par with Whitney, a true freshman, recording the lowest score of the season, a 66 at the season-opening GolfWeek Fall Challenge. McGrath had three rounds in the 60s that tournament to set a school record with a 13-under 203.
> Buddy Hansen and Andrew Curran will again play as independents for the Owls.
The Field
> Temple and host Elon will be joined by Appalachian State, Drexel, Gardner-Webb, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, Longwood, North Carolina, North Carolina A&T, Ohio, Presbyterian, Radford and UNC Greensboro.
