PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (3-5-3, 1-3-0 AAC) will close out nonconference competition for the 2021 season this Tuesday, Oct. 12 at LIU (2-6-2, 2-3-1 NEC). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.
The Owls
Temple has an even contest record of 1-1-0 all-time against the Sharks with the teams' only two meetings coming in 2001 and 2005. In 2001, the Owls posted a 3-0 shutout over the Sharks but in 2005, LIU rebounded, securing the 3-0 win.
The Owls
- After a three game homestand, the Owls dropped to East Carolina on the road on Oct. 7, with a final score of 2-1. Despite taking the lead just 17 minutes into play off an Emily Kavanaugh goal, the Pirates netted two unanswered goals in the remainder of play to earn the win.
- With another goal on Thursday, Kavanaugh has separated herself as the team point leader, recording a career high of seven goals for 14 points. At seven goals, Kavanaugh is one goal away from sneaking into the top 10 of Temple's all-time single season goal record.
- Lexy Endres has remained solid in the midfield and instrumental on Owl free kick opportunities, dishing out a career high of five assists on the season. Endres has accumulated 11 career points in her two seasons as an Owl, leading the team in the assist category both this season and in 2020-21.
- Kamryn Stablein has recorded 61 saves to lead the AAC for the fourth straight week. With 6.10 saves per game, she ranks first in the conference and 29th in the national rankings.
- LIU enters the match on a two-game win streak with an overall record of 2-6-2 (2-3-1 NEC). Both Shark wins came in conference play, first topping Mount Saint Mary's, 2-1 and most recently, shutting out Merrimack, 2-0.
- The Shark offense is spearheaded by senior Kendra Oldroyd, the team leader in points (7), tallying three goals and an assist on the season.
- Tatiana Lizarraga trails Oldroyd on the point leaderboard, notching two goals on the season while Mackenzie Morano has been instrumental to the teams' scoring opportunities, dishing out two assists, including the 71st minute game-tying assist in the overtime match against Vermont.
- Junior goalkeeper Kayla DeTreux has grabbed 38 saves for a 0.792 save percentage, earning a fourth-place spot on the NEC save percentage leader board.
- Last year, the Sharks went 3-1-1, participating only in conference play due to the COVID-19 pandemic. LIU earned their spot in the NEC Title game, but fell to first-seeded Central Connecticut State, 4-0.
